What You Can Do at Home

  • For a Severe Toothache: Gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water. A cool compress on the outside of your cheek can help reduce the pain and swelling, and slightly numb the area
  • If you think you’ve broken a tooth: Rinse your mouth gently and use a cold compress for any swelling. If you’ve found bits of your tooth, please bring them with you in a small container of milk, making sure they’re fully submerged.
  • If you’ve lost a tooth: Handle your tooth by its crown (the part you chew with), give it a gentle rinse with milk, and if you can, try to place it back. If you can’t, submerge it in milk in a small container and come see us as soon as possible.
  • Do you suspect a dental abscess? Do a gentle, warm saltwater rinse to keep the area clean. A cool compress can also assist with swelling, but be mindful to avoid poking or prodding the area until you see Dr. Leedy.
