While wisdom teeth make up a large percentage of extracted teeth, sometimes other teeth need to be removed to protect the rest of your smile from getting damaged or infected. If you’re struggling with tooth pain or sensitivity, Dr. Leedy will examine your oral structures and decide whether this is the right treatment to get your smile healthy again.

You may need a tooth extraction when

  • You’ve experienced trauma to the tooth
  • The tooth is in a state of decay
  • The broken tooth can’t be fixed with a crown
  • You’re preparing your smile for orthodontics
  • Your teeth are overcrowded and disrupting the overall alignment

Getting a tooth extracted can aid in many ways, including

  • Relieving tooth pain
  • Eliminating harmful bacteria
  • Lowering the risk of decay, cysts, or TMJ disorders

With the use of oral sedation, tooth extractions are relatively painless, with most patients experiencing only minor discomfort during the treatment. During the healing process, you’ll feel sore for a few days, so keeping ice and painkillers on hand can help mitigate that.

This will depend on your individual plan and coverage, but most insurances will cover a percentage of the extraction costs.

Modern technology makes tooth extractions very safe, and while you may experience some bruising and swelling after the treatment, as long as you follow the aftercare instructions closely and keep the area clean, you won’t be at risk for future infections.
