Alyssa

Registered Dental Hygienist

Alyssa received her education at Central Carolina Community College, where she received advanced training in dental hygiene and BLS/CPR, and she stays on top of her continuing education every year.

Getting into dentistry came naturally for Alyssa, as her aunt was a dental assistant. Her interest in the field grew from an early age after she had extensive orthodontic treatment as a child.

Alyssa has been in the field of dentistry since 2011, having been with the practice since 2023. She believes what makes Genesis Dental unique is the team and technology we utilize here.

Alyssa is in charge of reviewing the dental and health histories of patients, performing hypertension screenings, assessing patients’ oral health status, and identifying suspicious areas. She also takes and develops dental radiographs, assesses and charts gingival health, and develops treatment plans for patient care. Alyssa will also help her patients with oral home care instructions and demonstrations, as well as prophylactic treatments, such as dental cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatments.

Outside the office, Alyssa enjoys hiking, kayaking, skiing, traveling, cooking, gardening, painting, and spending time with her friends, family, and dog, Gus. Alyssa’s favorite local restaurants include Bida Manda, Noodles Blvd, Stanbury, Osteria G, Thai Thai, and Five Guys.

Karol

Patient Care Coordinator

Karolys, a.k.a. “Karol,” received her education from the University of Zulia in Venezuela and the Triangle Dental Assisting School. Karol has advanced training in dental radiology, SPICE, BLS, sedation, and dental radiology.

Karol wanted a change from her career in teaching ESL and Spanish to join the practice in 2022. She believes what sets Genesis Dental apart is the awesome team that works here.

Karol is in charge of checking patients in and out, collecting payments, scheduling, creating payment plans, filing insurance claims, checking insurance verification/eligibility, answering the phones, and communicating with patients and other offices.

Outside the office, Karol enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, hiking, and exploring. Her favorite local restaurants are La Buena Vida and Esteamed Coffee, a coffee shop that employs individuals with disabilities.

Mai

Practice Manager

Mai was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She received her education from California State University, Northridge, and pursued advanced training in the Dental Business at Nash Institute. Mai pursued this path in 2020 to support her husband and Japanese patients in the Triangle Area. She believes that what makes Genesis Dental unique is that the staff takes care of their patients as if they were family.

Mai’s responsibilities include HR, payroll, bookkeeping, coordinating with the overseas admin team, patient care coordinator for Japanese patients, hiring, staff meeting, and evaluations.

Outside the office, Mai enjoys training for triathlons, practicing yoga and meditation, running with Jasper, and supporting the local Japanese community. Mai met Dr. Leedy while he was stationed in Japan with the Navy. They have been happily married for a decade!

Whitney

Certified Dental Assistant

Whitney received her education from the Triangle School of Dental Assisting, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from ECU and an Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts. She also boasts advanced training in coronal polishing and sedation.

Whitney has always been interested in dentistry but took a different path to explore pastry and her love of food and cooking first. She enjoys helping patients achieve a healthier smile that they want to show the world.

Whitney joined the practice in 2021 and believes what makes Genesis Dental special is that the team members go above and beyond and that everyone is genuinely fun to be around.

Whitney’s responsibilities include reviewing and explaining treatment to patients and going over finances/insurance. She also assists Dr. Leedy during various procedures.

In her spare time, Whitney volunteers with TinyHero: Real Hope for CDH (congenital diaphragmatic hernia) to raise awareness and funds for families who have a loved one diagnosed with CDH.

Outside the office, Whitney enjoys spending time with her husband and two Shiba Inu pups, being outside when the weather is nice, traveling, cooking and baking, trying new restaurants in the area, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite restaurants are Rey’s, Dashi, Mateo’s, and Noodle Blvd.

Cameron

Dental Assistant

Cameron received her education from Central Carolina Community College through the CODA DA program. She boasts the Certified Dental Assistant National Board Certification. Cameron found herself in dentistry through her love of working with her hands and being part of her patients’ treatments. She loves being a source of comfort for patients who struggle with dental anxiety and turning their experience into one of positivity.

Cameron started her dentistry career in 2021 and has been with the practice since 2023. She believes that what makes Genesis Dental unique is its focus on patient comfort and ensuring patients have a positive experience.

Cameron is responsible for assisting our doctors with chairside procedures, taking
X-rays, scheduling patients for their next visit, and setting up operatories for different procedures.

Cameron is a proud member of Safe Haven, a no-kill, humane cat shelter where she volunteers several hours a month cleaning the shelter and helping with feeds.

Outside the office, Cameron enjoys weightlifting, yoga, baking, and spending time outside. She’s an avid cook and used to teach cooking classes after graduating college, and has even published her own cookbook! Cameron’s favorite restaurant is Stanbury, where the food is always interesting and consistent. Cameron says, “I can always stand behind a restaurant with Miller High Life on the same menu as fancy French Beaujolais!”

Stewart

Dental Assistant

Stewart received his education from NC State University, with advanced training in CPR and first aid, intraoral radiography, and infectious disease control/sterilization. He decided to pursue dentistry due to his love of the dynamic environment and working with his hands. Stewart says, “Connecting with and helping patients is also an awesome thing to be a part of.”

Stewart joined the practice in 2023 and believes what makes Genesis Dental stand out is the knowledgeable and passionate team that always shares a laugh or cracks a joke. Dr. Leedy’s “good vibes” are another plus!

Stewart is responsible for sterilizing dental instruments, disinfecting and preparing rooms, and assisting the rest of the team in any way he can.

Stewart is a proud member of the Homework Haven after school tutoring program, NC Mission of Mercy dental clinics, and Wake Smiles dental clinic.  When not in the office, he enjoys fixing and riding motorcycles, reading, lifting weights, and skateboarding. His favorite local restaurant is Irregardless Cafe for the great brunch and live music.
